Reiki

 Reiki was re-discovered at the turn of the last century by Usui sensei in Japan. He had been studying old Buddhist texts for many years trying to find clues to the mysterious healing practiced in antiquity. It was during a prolonged fast and meditation in the mountains to the north of Kyoto, that he received the insights that would lead to his formation of what we know as Reiki today.

The energy used in the practice of Reiki is the universal KI (Chi in the Chinese language) that is applied in the Martial Arts. In fact Reiki, is the opposite of Sakki, it is a life force as opposed to a killing force. Martial Artists can benefit from the acquisition of Reiki skills.

The first level of Reiki is for yourself, it enables you to treat your self and your family. This is fine as an introduction if you are training in the Martial Arts.

If decide to go on and become a healer, you can receive a further attunement to enable you to practice and give “distance healing”. The final levels are the Masters attunements that enables you to teach and attune others.

The first level takes place over 1 day with a further 21 days of self practice which enables the “opening” to embed itself into your body. Once attuned you can practice this gentle energy treatment, that can be used to compliment Traditional Medicine or stand alone in effecting remarkable improvements in certain conditions.

Involving the placing of the therapist’s hands on certain areas of the body, allowing energy to pass through the therapist, into the body of the patient (or yourself) to clear and cleanse affected regions.

 If the student also trains in the Martial Arts, they can find that attunement enhances the channels opened by the Martial Arts training. It has a double-edged effect, the more you use it the more your energy will flow during training, and the more you train the better your energy will flow during Reiki. This is the level for the Martial Artist that will give a deeper understanding of this universal energy and its application. The attunement that I do with the Martial Artist (Bujinkiden) will be subtly different, with some training on the movement and development of Ki included within the 2 day course.
